Cue the New You | Meritt Rollins Brown

Ep 1 | Intro to Season 2!

Meritt Rollins Brown Season 2 Episode 1

Hey Cueties!

Let me introduce the new season of the Cue the New You podcast! Super excited about this season. Very grateful to be back and podcasting after a hell of year. In this episode I go over what I will be teaching throughout this podcast - focusing on:

- The Habit Loop by Charles Duhigg
- Identity Shifts with James Clear
- Thought Patterns by Brooke Castillio
- Self-Belief/Trust/Love

I go over how our brains are preprogrammed due to our ancestors having to survive, but how we are letting our primitive brains take over our life, instead of using our prefrontal cortex.

If you are wondering how you can break a bad habit, learn how to shatter self limiting beliefs, learn how to trust and love yourself, create new routines, and achieve any goal in your life, as well as getting some fitness inspo, then you've come to the right place!

XOXO

Hey Cueties, welcome to the Cue the New You podcast. I'm here to teach you how to rethink your habits with simple strategies. Just to give you a little background, I I have been a mindset and life coach for the past three years, and I have been diving into a self love, self care journey for the last five years. I have learned so much along the way, and I've had many mentors and life coaches, business coaches, personal trainers, and I am going to share all of my knowledge with you. All right. So, the first... Episode of this season. And I say this season because I had a former podcast and since then I have rebranded, but I am going to keep the old podcast episodes and just start over with a season one slash two of Cue the New You. You can go back, the old podcast was Mindset for Mealtimes, and it talks about eating habits and how to improve your relationship with food today I am gonna go over briefly what's Connected the dots for me in order to really implement everything that I had learned for a sustainable change. And I will talk a lot about thought patterns and processing your emotions and habit loops. And the thing that really connected it. All together for me was learning about the habit loops and I first read Atomic Habits by James Clear and that solidified what I have learned about mindset work and being a mindset and life coach because it talks about the identity based habit versus the outcome based habit. He says, quote, behind every system of actions is a system of beliefs, end quote. And from atomic habits, he got a lot of ideas about the habit loop from Charles Duhigg, who wrote The Power of Habits, and I like using, I love what James Clear says in his book, and I highly, highly recommend it, but I love how Charles Duhigg makes it simple to follow the habit loop, the habit loop contains three parts, which is the cue, routine, and reward. And James Clear has the habit loop that contains four parts. And I think the less parts, the simpler it is to understand and implement. So I will focus on... The Habit Loop from Charles Duhigg, and talk about the cue, the routine, and the reward. But also, go over what James Clear discusses in his book as well. They both have to do with Keystone Habits, Habit Stacking, how you can't necessarily break a bad habit. Once a habit is formed, it's always there. However, you can... understand the underlying motive behind that habit and in order to really change a habit or build a new habit you have to change your routine that combined with processing your emotions being able to feel your feelings in a healthy way Meaning, you aren't escaping, you aren't buffering. If you feel sad, you are going to try to quote unquote fix that sadness. If you feel angry, you aren't going to let that anger overtake you. And you aren't, you're going to learn how to not react with your emotions, but respond with your emotions. So when we react, we are. Reacting from past thinking because, and remember I said I was going to talk a lot about thought patterns, thought loops, and if we think a thought over and over again, that then becomes a belief, and that belief then becomes how we identify ourselves in our life. So, if I... If I think a thought of I'm not good enough, then I believe that I'm not good enough. So deep down, I feel like anything I do is not good enough. And therefore, I act in ways that actually fulfills a self prophecy and I will behave in a way that, in, think in a way that corresponds with. My core beliefs, what I believe about myself. And so, breaking down, the habit loop, and really understanding emotions, and processing your emotions, and challenging your thoughts and beliefs, will then help you create whatever result you want in your life. Most of the time, We want something, we desire something in life, and we believe that we cannot achieve it. This person can achieve it, and that person can achieve it, but there's no way I could achieve it, right? And this creates a kind of rollercoaster of, I want to try this thing, So let me do it a couple of times this week, but we don't have really any, I mean, like James Clear said, behind every system of actions is a system of beliefs. So we try to do all these actions in order to create this result, but our beliefs are not aligned with those actions. And I'm going to talk a lot about, too, how your brain and body are connected and how your, the thoughts you think. Attribute to how you behave because our mind and our body want to be on the same page. So if you're thinking all of these, say you're saying all these positive affirmations, yet you don't believe these affirmations yet, your body's still going to react in a way that's not aligned with. What you do want to be thinking in the future because it's not used to it. And so I go over kind of how to break down your Beliefs and your thoughts and Pinpoint your feelings and go over strategies on how to build healthier habits In order to create the results you want in your life, in order to create the life that you want to live and be who you want to be. And that comes with becoming your future self. I will talk a lot about your past thinking, which is you, your reactions, because these reactions are habitual behaviors that have been ingrained. In your brain through the neural pathways because a lot of times in experiences when We experience something Especially something that is negative our brain is like, oh goodness we have to survive this negative thing and So we are going to react in this way And so, once the negative thing has surpassed, and that experience has surpassed, then your brain's like, okay, we have survived this, and therefore the next time something negative comes up like this, then we're going to react in a similar way, because reacting like that has kept us alive. And, like, your brain wants to keep you alive. That's why, that's why it's difficult for a lot of people to get out of their comfort zones or to really go after a dream in their life because your brain is there to protect you. It does not know the future. The future is uncertain. Therefore... The pre programming in our brain due to our ancestors and how they used to have to stay in a group and because if you were exiled from the group, then you had a higher chance of not surviving, and our brain is pre programmed with a negative bias already because of that and because of survival mode and that's what we call your lower brain your primitive brain known as people call it your monkey brain or lizard brain that's the survival mode so if you're doing if you're trying to do something nice or do something nice do something new You may feel like your voice starts to shake, your armpits may sweat, your hands may sweat, your heart may start to race, you feel uncomfortable, and it's a lot of times we want to not feel uncomfortable. We avoid feeling uncomfortable, when you start to do something new, then your brain starts to freak out, and then that's where Your beliefs come into play and your thoughts come into play. Like, remember, we tried to do this a few months ago and that didn't work out. It's going to be the same thing this time. Because our brains pull from past experiences. Because that's the only thing it can pull from. It can't pull from future experiences. However, if neuroplasticity, neuroplasticity, We can change the neural pathways within our brains in order to be able to think new thoughts and to really understand how to feel new feelings and how to behave in new ways. And that means you are going to respond more versus react more. So if somebody, if something triggers you and in the moment, You get angry, you get upset, you feel rejected, you will be able to, with the simple strategies that I'm going to go over in the podcast, you are going to be able to pause and think about how you want to respond, how you want to show up in this world. Because, the definition of insanity, I think Albert Einstein says this. is"doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result". Well, if you have been trying to reach a goal, or create some, a new result in your life, and you are trying to do all of these things, and nothing seems to be working, it's because you haven't learned how to back that up with your thoughts, and you haven't been able to see kind of what you're How your brain is built and how it's acting now versus how it could act in the future. I am really excited about this podcast and restarting this and connecting with all of you. Again, it's going to be a lot about the habit loop and how to build healthier habits and also how to break Thought patterns in order to think new thoughts and build up your self belief and your self trust and your confidence and you will learn how to feel good about yourself and love yourself and love your body because we're also here for that. We want to improve our overall mental, physical, and emotional health. And I am here to cover all of that. One thing you can do is connect with me over on Instagram where I post a lot of my workouts. I have a personal trainer right now. She's amazing. She's awesome. I love her. Hey Merina. And, it's also a fun way to kind of see my kind of work. In real life as well. You can also ask me questions on Instagram via DM. My Instagram at Meritt Rollins Brown. That's M E R R I T T R O L L I N S B R O W N. For now, I think I'm gonna wrap this up. I do want to end with one quote, though, and this is by Carl Jung, the quote goes,"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate", end quote. Until next time, peace out, bye.
